Music and Our Choir

Our Music

Sydenham Street United Church has a long tradition of excellence in church music. The Sydenham Street United Street Choir is a vital part of our worship service. The choir sings an eclectic repertoire spanning five centuries of sacred music in one of the most acoustically favoured sanctuaries in Kingston.

Music Director

Sydenham Street United Church congregation, with a rich history of meaningful music, is led by a Music Director, whose responsibilities include playing the three-manual Casavant pipe organ, directing the choir (weekly practices and Sunday services), and meeting regularly with the Minister and monthly with the Worship Committee to plan the service music.   Howard Lopez is our Music Director.

Sydenham Street United Church Choir – 2023

Don’t write off your singing abilities! We all have a gift of music within our hearts, and you are invited to explore how we can come together in community to embrace and share our gifts with our church. With the Pandemic, hopefully, behind us, past choir members have been welcomed back and new members are most welcome.  We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 18:30 hr to 20:30 hr.

Please join us, and bring a friend. Get in touch with Howard Lopez to get more information about attending!

The congregation has identified music as an important part of our worship; they wish to have a diversity of musical expressions from classical to more contemporary.

You can find other examples of our music program and choir music at Nurturing the Congregation. In addition, our award-winning art/poetry/music presentation, Light into Light The Easter Road, brightens the walls of our sanctuary.
