News that Gabrielle “Gaby” Sims died

With great sadness, we share the news that Gabrielle “Gaby” Sims died Feb. 12, 2021 and offer our heart-felt condolences to Gaby’s husband Peter and their two sons, Andrew and Matt.

At SSUC, Gaby was perhaps best known as a long-standing member of the choir, along with Peter.  Others will know her as an artist, whose work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States, Europe and Qatar. Her work is also in several public collections including The Canada Art Back, Ottawa, the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Kingston, the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto and Middlemarch Press, Toronto.  The “Agnes” held an exhibition of her work, entitled Hook,  in Spring-Summer 2018.  This selection of Gaby’s recent drawings in charcoal and ink were described by the curator as an exploration of “the feelings of dread, outrage and tenderness compelled by conditions of entanglement and loss.”   In 2010, Gaby and Peter lost their beloved daughter Danielle, and created a book of Peter’s poetry and Gaby’s artwork, titled Singing Her Across, to celebrate Danielle’s life.

A celebration of Gaby’s life is being planned.  Further information will be shared on the SSUC website when it becomes available. Gaby’s obituary can be found on this link.
