Catch the Spirit of Friendship in Small Groups
In the 2016-2016 season the Small Group ministry created about 200 opportunities for SSUC people to meet and spend time with others who share their interests.
An early start in September to encourage participation included a “Moment for Small Groups” during a worship service, invitations to sign up and/or suggest a new group at sign-up tables in the Sanctuary and at Coffee Hour, information in Sunday Bulletins and on the web site and personal contacts. The Small Group co-ordinators were always ready to help facilitate the start-up of new groups. The short-term “pop-up” discussion groups were much appreciated. Since the welcome mat was always out for everyone, group leaders were encouraged to keep the congregation informed about group activities via the Sunday Bulletin and the web site.
The spirit of friendship is at work in our Small Groups, enhancing the lives of individuals and strengthening the fabric of the whole SSUC community.

Small Group Ministry has been a long-standing feature of our church life. It is a way to join with others in the pursuit of common interests or spiritual development. Some groups meet monthly, some more frequently. Small groups will start anew this fall; some new groups are in the early stages of development. Check the weekly bulletin for more information about the small groups available at SSUC. Please feel free to contact Sue Doerksen (613-766-3254) email@example.com / Barbara Parrott (613-389-3601) firstname.lastname@example.org If you have an ideas for a new group we would love to hear about it.

The Community Garden was a student was run project, which worked in partnership with Sydenham Street United Church. The summer of 2014 was the first growing season, in which we grew a variety of heirloom vegetables and herbs, on a 42ft by 21ft plot located on the front lawn of Sydenham Street United Church. It has now been taken over by the Community Gardeners of Sydenham Street and the produce is donated through Loving Spoonful to help provide healthy meals to individuals and families who might not have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
